Frozen Homestead

Today it is -10 to -25 with wind chill today here in Idaho. My chickens need fed because they don't work well in the cold and snow. Talked to my folks this morning and it is going to be 80 at there place in Charlotte today. We do grow better potatoes and our summers are really nice. Sorry to rant i guess i miss dixie.

I can personally confirm the 80 degrees in Charlotte, NC. Kinda scary if you ask me. Yesterday, the heat wilted my greens. I hope it doesn't make the buds pop.

We are getting a pretty seasonal pre winter, so far. A few days last week it got down to -30C, which isn't all that unusual for the northland. Chickens are doing okay in their secure pen and out of the north winds.
Nice to be able to get out on the good snow cover and do some snowshoing to pack down some of the winter trails, though I did punch through some ice below one of the beaver dams. Otherwise about 5 inches of ice on the ponds already has formed.
I'm looking forward to a somewhat normal winter compared to last year when we had almost no snow cover.

Whoa. It's 19 above here in northern Idaho. I'm glad we're not farther south!

We had 2F and six inches of snow a week ago. Today it's 60F and supposed to get up to 70.

Edited to add: my mistake, I hadn't checked the temps in the last little bit. It's 68F.

We are under a thick layer of ice here in NY and have been for several days. It just started to rain, temps are around 34 degrees. Weatherman says this could become freezing rain in higher elevations (like where I live).

In RTP NC its 70 currently with an expected high of 80 for the next two days, then a high of 45 on Saturday. I wish the weather would make up its mind.

Here we have had.... snow, frozen rain, and ice for the last 3 weeks. We currently have two 1/4" layers of ice with 5 inches of show in between. Temp. is 30 and we have a light drizzle yet again. The weather service claims it will warm to just plain rain in a few hours.....

Filling the tubs and water jugs for the third time in two weeks is getting a bit old. I sure hope the storms forecast for later in the week bring Snow!!!!

Here are two pics I just took......

I considered posting a companion thread to this ... "Frozen Homesteader"

I haven't seen the ground in 3 weeks. I find I think differently about the snow now that I'm forced to get out in it twice a day (at least) for farm chores.

It has made up it's mind. It has decided to do exactly what you don't expect it to do, LOL.
It hit 78*F on the central N.C./Va. line today. I was cutting firewood without a shirt on and still sweating, . That doesn't make sense does it, LOL.

Near Winston-Salem, NC today it got to 83 I think. I just went out and you could hear the bull frogs croaking at the pond, and it seemed you could hear the tree frogs as well.

It is December isn't it?

What do the temps go to in the summer in your area!? Those are July and Aug temps for us. Our lows typically are in the teens and below zero this time of year. If we are lucky we might break 30 for highs. Of course we don't have dust or drought problems.
