Struck Corp's Magnatrac....

Does anyone have any experience with Struck Corp's Magnatrac? They have an interesting website and some of the videos seem like it might be a tough little machine, but I hesitate to even consider buying a machine that I've never heard of.

Please check them out at..

http://www.struckcorp.com/index.html

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

I've never heard of them, but it looks like a great machine.

The struck machines are quite a stout little machine. I have ever only ran the old belt drive ones but have seen the newer ones. Bear in mind they are garden tractor sized and expect them to work great at what they were designed for. Crawlers in general are pretty amazing. I plan to build a small crawler in a year or so. Been collecting parts for awhile now. The new strucks are all hydraulic. I have a couple of the few years old videos. Interesting and well done. Check em out. Call the company with questions. I have a friend with an agri-cat that he and his dad built into a 1/2 scale D-2 cat. They pull a 1/2 scale JD trailer 3bottom plow with it.

Struck

I looked at them but opted for a grey market track loader. I don't think the Strucks are big enough to clear pasture which is what I wanted to do.

I know someone who has one. It's a nifty little machine and can do more then you think! If I had the cash, I'd probably buy one.

look at the pdf file.it says the regual price for the 4800 and loader bucket is 19,999...wow...with a 5,000 somehting discount...errrrr...roughly 15,000 for a toy.you can get a nice used crawler/loader for that kind of money and do real work.a 4x4 farm tractor with loader can do the work this thing can....jsut my opinion...its to small .

A friend of mine had one in Maine. He was hoping to clear some wooded land with it. It was too small for that job.

If the cost is now$15,000-20,000, then I would go with a used larger machine.....or a tractor with a bucket loader.

A friend of mine had one of the belt driven ones. He bought it for next to nothing because the tranmission was out. Him being a very mechanical type fellow, he removed the transmission, and sent it to the factory (Cedarberg, WI) for repair. He was extremely happy with their work & speed at which they did it. Had the thing up & running quickly. Of course, my friend sold it shortly after it was fixed.

They are indeed small. Not exactly sure what one could use them for. Backfilling a basement perhaps.
The fact that it doesn't have a 6 way blade insures its limited use as a landscaping tool.

Skid loaders have pretty much made them obsolete.

I'm thinking one has to be nearly insane to purchase one of these toys new.

Recently I saw two small used Komatsu dozers for sale in our local Penny Pincher - 15K each. Track wear was said to be 50%.

Wouldn't that be a better buy?

There is the key ,a six way blade makes a world of difference .
Ive had two T340 International dozers the 6 way blade made a huge diference on a small dozer like that.

hmm;

1- used with 50% of the track life gone

or

2- new with everything 100%

If the price is the same, I would lean toward option 2

Magnatracts have been around for decades .
they used to be sold in the back of popularmechanics and science .
My cousin owns an early model which was all belt drive . It has a 10hp kolar engine and 4ft front blade (cable operated)
the motor drives a jackshft via three belts, each track is then controlled by levers which engage six more belts to a second jackshaft and chain sprocket.
pull back on the lever engages reverse, push forward to go forward.
Its a very heavy little machine and capable of doing a lot more than one would think considering its size . It actually looks like an over grown kids toy .
this one is a 1966 model hydraulics were an option and they even had a backhoe attachment made for them as well as plows discs and mowers

I should have bought one back when they were $4,800.00. Many years ago.
