Well, yeah--when you're crafting with inflammables, try not to nod off before the work is finished. As well as when you're working with jigsaws or power drills--stay awake!

Really. Seriously. Don't work with things that can kill or maim you when you're tired, ill or distracted. It can wait. Don't make Darwin laugh.

Been there, done that.......

Back in the Day............old days that is.........ummmmm, 70's......

I was doing Batik, for some art festivals. It was a good second source of income, for the Family & fun. It sold well.
The process involved doing line-drawings on fabric, light muslin, t-shirts & such. I'm a bit of an artist, so that's easy.

Then you melt 5 to 6 pounds of special blended wax, in an electric skillet, with a thermostat. With tools and brushes, you wax the parts of the pic. that will stay white. You dye the fabric in light color, yellow, pink or light blue.
Then wax the parts that remain the 2nd color. Then dye another slightly darker color, let cool. And dye another color......and on & on, to make a multi color picture, Dyed in the fabric, each time cooling or drying as needed.

My problem came, when the leg on the card table, I was working on
"Folded". The wax, at about 300 degrees, or so dumped into my lap.
I'd had the foresight to be wearing a big, heavy weight Apron.
It saved my..........self. I also moved.....very fast.... Wax everywhere.
Only loss was a good pair of jeans.
Most of the wax was salvaged, it peeled right off when it was partly cool.
I worked on a secure Table after that.
Please Be Careful Folks.

geeeez. she must have had the wax pot directly on the stove. and then LEFT it? 2 idiot things in one sentence. And it looks like they didn't have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen(where she obviously makes her candles..flammable stuff...) another idiot thing.

well, at least they had a smoke detector.

I'm a chandler, and would never NEVER leave the wax as it melts. I'd also never start without having the fire extinguisher handy. Takes only an instant for it to flame.

Hot coffee cups with "caution, contents may be hot"; irons that come with the warning to not iron clothes while wearing them (although that "caution" always brings me a visual of someone ironing clothes naked....) ...I suppose the next thing will be matches that come with the warning: caution! may be flammable
