what kind of spider made this web?

I was walking through the pasture yesterday and found this.... I have never seen anything like it. I just thought it was very cool the way this spider protected her egg sac with her web.

Have you ever seen one like this before? and do yo know what kind of spider made it?

Its the first two pictures .

check it out and let me know. Thanks!

maybe 2 and a half inches tall not very big.

the sac itself looks a lot like a golden orbe weavers sac that is on my porch.. but from reading it doesn't sound like they "web em in" like this one is.

We have those here (between Houston and Corpus Christi), too. Mainly around the barn.

I have a couple of friends who are biology teachers. I'll ask.

I also though it looked like a garden spider egg sack but that is not a garden spider web.

I think the web was deformed by wind or something else, but the egg sack is too big to be anything else

I wondered about that too. But the web was very deliberate. not messy. it in-cases the egg sac, but does not touch it. Its like a cage for the sac.

Well, my Garden Spiders don't do that for some reason so the only web I ever see them make is the one with a zipper down the middle.

This may indeed be one they make special just to protect the egg sac.
Just because I have never seen it does not mean it isn't so.

Mine make two egg sacs each and attach them under something like a window sill or the bottom of a branch to protect them from above.

I hate spiders. They give me the creeps. But I can appreciate the intricacy of their work and think that they're amazing. Hummm, now I'm in the mood for the only spider I like, Charlotte of Charlotte's Web. LOL
