Plastic and Gardening

I have bought plants in plastic containers at Lawn/Garden centers before, so it would seem that using plastic containers to grow plants is OK. But does anyone see a problem with making a raised bed using plastic? I'm sure there will deterioration over time, so I am wondering if this is safe.

Thanks
Rich

It might be OK to use: Our local hardware stores, and some nurseries, sell large rolls of garden edging that is made from recycled plastic, and my wife used a length of the stuff around a raised rose bed. I've seen several neighbours using it for raised vegetable beds, but at the asking price per metre, I can't afford it for my beds.

I haven't heard of any problems from using plastic edging for raised beds. I use concrete blocks for mine and they work very well. Just do not use any treated wood products for the edging.
