Lousy typist...

I've had a few pms mentioning that I should post on here more. Heck, I'd love to post away, when I have the time, cause this place fits me like a wool sweater...thing is though, that I only have so much time right now and oh ya, I'm the worst typer I know. To paint a visual, imagine two drunk pigeons with an eating disorder pecking at seed in tall grass... thats the only way I can describe my ability to type. I am lucky to reply as much as I do without 3 hours racing by!

Who else on here is a "s-l-o-w" lousy typer? C'mon be honest!

well, on the bright side...the more you post, the faster you'll get at pecking the keyboard

I learned to type on one of those old timey typewriters with the angled key board. Fast forward "x" number of years and a computer keyboard entered my life. The keys are squeezed way closer together and some of them aren't even in the same places, but I have plugged along and am now quite proficient at the "hunt and peck" method.

Keep plugging away and it will come.

You can buy Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor at Staples for around $10, it is an excellent program. I'm a pretty good typist and I use it on occasion to speed up a bit.

Mrs. Griffith

I frequently thank my teacher the late Mrs. Griffith for teaching typing in high school. I enjoyed typing and working on the school newspaper enough that I took a second year of it.

We students were on the cusp of electric typewriters with only one in the classroom when we first started. Before the year was out we had gotten a couple of IBM "Selectric" typewriters that had the moving ball with type on it. It could be changed to provide different fonts. Prior to those about the only fonts available were Pica and Elite.

How typing has served me over the decades.
School newspaper.
Application forms.
Typing lists of addresses while an employee of the Chicago Tribune.
Military Police radio log.
Military Police desk blotter.
Military Police operations typist.
Secretary of newly chartered Lions International Club.
Civilian police reports.
Reports as city employee caring for city sewer and water services.
Secretary/Treasurer of Lions International Club.
Typing resolutions for local union to be submitted at state convention.
Union newsletter.
Reports while a USPS supervisor trainee.
Motorcycle club secretary/treasurer.
Motorcycle club newsletter.
Security officer reports to library director.
Typing while office assistant to a county agency.
Computer typing for more than a decade.

Learning touch typing is really rather easy and there are computer programs to assist. The biggest challenge will be to rid yourself of bad habits.

It is very useful for many reasons and can open doors to many volunteer jobs if such is desired. Joy of life with touch typing is definitely increased. Go for it.

There was a point in my life that I could type a bit with both hands. Then I had an accident with permanent damage. I had to adjust to typing with the left hand as per normal and typing with only 2 fingers on the other hand. My brain certainly had to do some adjusting! As you can see with the number of posts I have made over the years the injury has been put aside. Just keep practicing and forget about the total correctness. I read somewhere that only a few key letters need to be present for a persons brain to read it as it was intended.

I'm another who uses the hunt and peck method of typing! Never took it in school, and surely regret it now. It takes me forever to type anything so I often say - forget it - and therefore don't respond to posts as often as I could.

I actually had typing in juior high, but the fellow who taught the class gave us 20 minutes to learn the keys before he taped them up. I being a slow learner, never had a clue where they were without looking some, as some others, and he hammered our butts to the wall, rubbing it in and making some of us bitter and not wanting to learn at all. We had 4 in the class...two were his favorites (girls) and the rest of us were in typers hell! If I was a little bigger and had more grit back then, that guy would be wearing that typewriter, LOL!
