How close are your neighbors?

Due to the recent posts on all the "yard lights" and burning trash, I was wondering how close your neighbors are.
We have 101 acres (hopefully to be trimmed down to 40 SOON), so ours are realitivley far off. Even when the other part sells, we will have a "buffer zone" of about 1000' feet betwen us and the line fence. Right now, the closest neighbor lives just under 1/2 mile over the hill. I can see the glow from his yard light, but never though it a BAD thing. We have a prison here that is WAY brighter and it is 7 miles away as-the-crow-flies. The only other neighbors I have within sight are from just over 1/2 mile to right at one mile away. Lots of farm land/pasture around. I don't have a good yard light, but everyone else does. All of us have tactors, chainsaws, etc. Some have grain bins and dryers. Most of us burn our trash. We live 475' off of the road.
What's it like where you're at?

The nearest full time neighbors are a half mile away there are two different retired house holds south on the road that far. East across the Fields on another road theres another house and Northeast about the same another one.
My closest neighbor is 1/4 mile north they are a part time retired couple , thats thru the woods but on the road I use most so I see more of them than any of the others.
West theres a road with 4 houses on it about a mile away but theres a creek between us and its a 8 mile trip to get there so I don't see a lot of them.

We live on 4 acres in the middle of a chicken hating neighborhood.
Rural, but too many houses have been built, so now they are suburban wannabees'.
Never mind that we only have about 30 at any given time and they are, for the most part excepting escapee's) penned up.

The lady to the right of us is bitter and cranky and hates the way we mow our lawn. Our children are "too loud" and she dislikes that they leave toys--in OUR yard!

We have a nice field in back of us and nice neighbors to the left (they used to be our renters).

My nearest neighbor is a short golf shot away(don't know which club they used). Guess how I know that? They were practicing some golf in their back yard one day and put one through my bathroom window.
Other than that neighbor, the rest are a more than a LONG drive away(in golf terminology).

I live in a horrible little trailer park. My unit is about 500 feet from the road, and there are 2 others between mine and the road. The one directly in front of me is about 30 feet away, and the one behind me is about 22 feet away. You can hear when someone flushes around here! Normal, day to day conversation is audible from just about any home around me; especially if the residents are in the yard.

Some day, my nearest neighbors will be a mile away in every possible direction, even if we have to be separated by water to effect that!

I have one neighbor who is 100 feet from my house, and used to complain about everything.

I share 80 acres with my brotherand it is attached to my dads 70. there are neighbors a couple hundred yards away who dont mind any of our farm operations. One is a farmer.

I guess in the big skeem of things, I got it pretty good.

When I live at the farm, my nearest neighbor is 11 miles away, and he is the only one within that radius. I live in "town" most of the time any more, and it contains 8 - 10 people in the summer, and fewer in the winter. Town isn't really a town anymore, but it has some street signs and a post office though, LOL!

My sisters house is build right near our property lines. We are the only two houses on this street. We are in the process of privatizing the street so there will never be more on here. There is a house somewhere behind us but you can't see or hear it from either of our houses. If you walk back to the property line and squint you can see it through all their trees. There is one house across the street from us but it faces another street.

Our closes neighbor is 1/4 mile away, but we can only see the corner of their house. The highway is a 100 feet from our house, but it doesn't even bother us anymore.

Each of my neighbors are a little under 1/2 mile away. I can just see their houses, lights etc. I like both neighbors, but I do like the buffer zone as someone said. I have new neighbors that bought 100 acres behind us. I like them too, they have yet to build, but I have to wonder, "Why do people who are looking for the peace and quiet of the country...come out to it then MAKE NOISE?"
Luckily all my neighbors (each owns about 100 acres) are farm oriented folk. They don't mind if my guineas visit their fields and they're all very helpful if I ever need help or have questions. Guess I've got it made. Mary.

A quarter mile one way. Good neighbors, always helpful when needed, we trade meals back and forth, nice people from the city. We've only had one problem with them. When their dogs were young they took off and ended up in my hen house. The roosters chased them out of the house and across the lawn and we haven't seen them up here since. Three hundred yards on the other side. They're city folks who moved in a year ago. She hates the dark. I'm one of the ones in the other thread to complain about lighting up the street with a night light. It must be the biggest bulb you can get on a yard pole. You can see it a half mile away on the main road. The trees between us help a lot but it's still too bright. If I'd known the land was for sale we'd have grabbed it. It's 100 forested acres and sold for $17,000.

My neighbors are really close. I'm almost certain they sleep in the same bed.

Let's see, the one who attracts rats by tossing out dog food onto the open deck is just the other side of the shop building from my house. The one who burns plastic every other day is about an acre away on the other side of the house.

LOL...the rat attracter actually told me the following one day as we talked over the fence...

"You know, them dogs of mine are pretty darned smart. When I go to feed 'em, I just toss that dog food on the deck out the back door. You know them little rascals'll run right up on that deck soon as I toss that feed, and start gathering it up into lil piles? Smart, is what they are."

It was all I could do not to go "They're piling it up TO DEFEND IT FROM THE RATS YOU ARE ATTRACTING!"

LOLOLOL...but I held my tongue and was polite. After all, this is my neighbor here, I need to be civil. But I did go back in the house later and tell DW, "Uh, I found out WHY we have those rats running around the place now..."

At the moment, we're semi-detached, so neighbours right next door They let all their apples drop on the ground and run them over with the lawn mower................
Other side is a beef farm, so surrounded on three sides by fields, woods, cows. We live in a small village in rural south of England, luckily opposite the pub..........
We are hoping to move to the very north of Scotland and have no neighbours for miles and miles..........

I live on a dirt road, about 100 feet from it. The nearest neighbour is 1/2 mile away and the other is 2 miles away. There is heavy forest between us all so can't see their lights or hear them except for their dog once in a while if the air is still. Chris

I live in a complex of townhouses which are built in pairs - each pair with an adjoining wall. That in itself is not a problem, as no noise comes through the common wall. It's the noise coming from the houses in front or behind that is a problem - from my pillow, my neighbour-at-the-back's pillow is only about 4 metres away!

If she answers her phone in the bedroom, and I'm in my kitchen or dining room, I can hear here end of the conversation clearly. Fortunately, since she's quite deaf, she's unlikely to hear my phone conversations!

When she has visitors they shout at each other. When I have visitors, and we're in my tiny little garden, she speak in muted tones.

The study, and my lounge-room, are only 2 metres from the internal road of the complex. Fortunately, it's a quiet complex, so it's not really a problem. What IS a problem for me is that there is a speed hump immediately in front of my front door, and people when slowing down ALWAYS look inside. So I keep the front windows and front door permanently closed and curtained for privacy purposes, and I've planted screening plants across the entire front.

You get used to anything after a while. One way of coping in places like this is that residents tend very much to keep themselves to themselves. I've been living next to my adjoining neighbour for 7 years now, and I haven't a clue who they might be! I've never seen or heard them.

One sweet widow lady across the road, her daughter and son-in-law about a 1/4 mile down the road, and one couple about 1/4 mile behind us. Can see the daughter and son-in-law's yard light at night, but can't see the neighbor behind us because of the pine trees. No one else within about a mile.

We only have neighbors to our south. All are at least a 1/2 mile away (still to close). One is an older couple who own the property just behind us. They are wonderful neighbors and we feel blessed to know them. The ones closest to us (in the winter I can see their house from mine) have been there less than a year. The man works out of state and is gone a lot. His girlfriend never makes a peep over there. The other is an elderly lady that never bothers anyone at all.

Our house is a 1/2 mile off the road. All the land to the East and North of us is cropland or swamp. We own all of it to the creek and it's all flood plain so no one can build on it. That's exactly what we wanted.

We're lucky.
