Is basswood alright to burn?

I have a few basswood trees that should come down, I know it's a softwood. What is it like to burn? Do they burn fast and hot etc? Is it worth even cutting up or should I just cut them and let them rot in the forest? They're about 12" in dia. Thanks Chris

It should make good morning wood for when you want quick heat that doesn't last long.

The Major is right. In fact, until the advent of plastic fishing lures, most were shaped from Basswood. Makers of wooden ware including kitchen articles love it because it is light and tough. The same qualities made it a favorite of oldtime trunk makers. Light and tough is good for a lot of thimgs...Glen

As an afterthought, If you are interested in Honey Bees, they love the clustered flowers in early summer. I like the way they smell myself...Glen

Basswood For Carving

My father who is retired loves to carve with bass wood. Its a little softer that most and easier to work with.
