Why's my fridge making a clunking noise?

I have a Kenmore fridge, stainless steel about 6 years old. Whenever the compressor goes off it makes a clunk noise, what's causing this? Does is sound like anything I could look at? It's been doing this for about a month. Thanks Chris

My first guess is that the sound is the compressor settling back on its mountings and that perhaps a rubber mounting piece is missing or has deteriorated. But that is only a guess.

Did you lock the cat in there??

Oh, it's been doing it for a month? Doubt it's still the cat!

It's haunted. I can tell you how to fix it, but first you will need to gather the necessary tools and supplies.

You're going to need a live chicken, a shot of tequila, a blindfold, and some eagle feathers. Get back to me when you have gathered those items.

Ours does that. Thats a sign that it still runs. The Maytag repair man said it is because it is an old clunker!

Ours doesn't clunk at all!

What do you think?

How much would it cost to get it to clunk or is it something I could do myself?

Mine has clunked for 3 years, maybe longer, it was here when I moved in. Not to mention the clunk the washer makes! Everything still works though, so I just keep on usin' it.
