Question...when tempering a new woodstove has anyone experienced their stove or chimney creaking and making noise?

Don't know about a new one but if I get a hot fire going quick the stove pipe makes noise as it expands. Sam when it starts cooling off. Metal expands when hot and shrinks when cooling. Hope this answers your question. Sam

Yes, my wood stove is several years old and still will pop and creak as the metal expands when I fire it from a cold start.

Mine cracks and makes noises when heating from a cold start also when it's colling down, it's perfectly normal. Chris

Cool, thanks y'all. It's our first stove and we installed everything ourselves not really knowing what we were doing. Just wanted to make sure the creaking was normal and not any adjustments needed.
