To any and all Maritime Canadians

Hello there! I've noticed there are at least a few people here from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Anyone from Prince Edward Island? Even if not, I have a few questions about PEI.

My mom and I took the most fantastic trip there several years ago, and just loved it. Now whenever I feel a bit glum over something, I get online, look at PEI real estate, and dream over a century homestead. Here is my concern, though. I've read a number of articles that say heavy pesticide use on potato crops is causing an unusual number and variety of cancers in people. Do you know if this is accurate? Widespread? Is the whole population in danger because of non-organic farming practices? How about in your province -- what are things like there? It's such a beautiful part of Canada, and my family is considering making the move north. Any info or advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Hey.

You might try a private message to "newfieannie". She might know something.

a good friend of mine ,clyde is a member here from PEI. does not go online right now(fall is too busy!!) , . have a couple of other friends from there as well, none of their families have been affected by cancer. maritimes is gorgeous, went down too New Brunswick last year to visit friends and had a hard time heading home! great place to retire too but not much work for the younger generation.

you might think about Newfoundland as well, plenty of wide open land here. and room to pratice organic methods on land that may never have been worked or hasn't been worked for many years.

here is a link to the department of Natural Resources website for agriculture

just another option to think about
