A praying thread

This booger was hanging out on our door trim waiting for a porch light meal.

I know they're helpful and I'm always glad to see them.

I'm just happy that they aren't six feet tall!

Nope (and I'm betting that it's a she, although I'm not exactly sure how to tell). It didn't flinch and has been back for the past few nights.

We've had something sortof new in our area - Chinese Mantids. They are absolutely beautiful (although not native) - and HUGE. A good 7" long, beautiful emerald green.

As much as I appreciate their beauty, I hope winters are a little colder - I would bet the Chinese Mantids are much better predators than the natives (like the one in your photo) and would probably do our natives in eventually.

I think it's a she ... the males are smaller then the females (if memory serves me correctly, but I'm known to have mental-pause).

AND the females eat the males after mating.

Thank you, that is very reassuring. But do not worry, they always lock the door here before they leave me.

BWA-HAHAHAHAHA!
