Neurotic spider?

We have a large golden garden spider next to our summer kitchen cabin that we have been watching. Today the spider was beating himself against the cabin wall! I watched her off and on for about an hour and when I left she was still swinging herself in her web and hitting the wall. Has anyone ever seen this before? Maybe it's just something they do for whatever reason?

I've seen them bounce the webs like that many times but I'm not sure why they do it
