I'd be interested to hear evryone's specific goals in their chosen homesteading lifestyle. It would help me ( and maybe others) to not get stuck in a box that defines what homesteading is and is not.
We are brand new to our property of 20 acres. Our homesteading journey here is a continuation of our life on 3/4 acre in w. wa.. with some great additions!
I'll start. My goals are as follows:
1. Raise(1st choice), Barter locally (2nd choice), or buy locally(3rd choice) as much of our food as possible. Specifically in order of importance to us; Meat, dairy, produce, other
2. Allow my kids (and us) an opportunity to know where their food comes from and earn a healthy respect for their local environment and community.
3.Learn something new everyday
4.Unplug our family from typical american excess by limiting tv, trips to town, etc.
5. teach the kids to be responsible adults and learn valuable 'life' skills
6. Challenge authority(in a good way) and the status quo by examing all our choices to see if they fit our chosen model or not and eliminating or cutting back if need be
7. Live full of joy. Notice the outdoors, enjoy it, everyday.
I'm sure there's more, but that's all i can think of now.
