Any hydrologists on this forum?

Need someone to explain the relationship, if any, between quarry blasting and damage to the water table in times of exceptional drought -- with the result of wells going dry.

I'm not a hydrologist, but blasting disturbs the sedimentary layers and can result in alteration of below-ground water flows.

Sounds as if they're using way too much explosive per shoot.

No degree in Hydrology, but one in Geology...

Without rain, the water table will fall, if it's being used. Most aquifers are like banks... you put water in, there's handling charges (losses), and only so much available for withdrawal, without the aquifer going dry.

In exceptional droughts, more water is being withdrawn than water is available....

I doubt if quarry blasting is at fault... If blasting were a problem, it would appear without a drought.

maybe the quarry blasted into the water table and they now have a lake they are pumping away.

I'm only a simple dirt farmer, but I was thinking like Texican - the drought is likely the problem. All by itself.
