Hanging a stall door

Finally got the barn set to where I can hang a half-door on a milking stall. The door is 4' wide x 3 1/2' tall and will be mounted on a 4 x 4 post that is concreted into the ground, and tie in at the top. This door is pretty heavy, made from a frame of 2x4's covered with rough cut 1x6's. The plan is to use 3 big hinges, and set the door on a 2x4 on the ground while attaching it to the post.

I have never mounted a door like this so is there anything I need to know?

Just make sure the 2x4 that the gate is resting on is level while you attach the hinges.

That's exactly what we did on our barn at the old house. We braced the door on a scrap 4x4 for stability and one person could hang it.

Put the hinges on the door and use the edge of the door as a guide. I fold the hinge at a 90 degree angle and hold it against the side of the 2x4 and fasten them on and the place the door against the 3x3 and fasten the screws. This should give you a free swinging door. Hope it works for you. Just put 2 up in the goat building. Sam

Thanks so much. I figured you all would have some good advice for me, and I was right!
