beef prices - anybody buy beef lately??

Thinking of buying some beef - and haven't bought for awhile. Wondering what hanging weight & wrapping price would be per pound.

Got some ribeyes Tuesday, cooked em tonite, fall apart with a fork tender, for 3.97/lb.

I'd really have to trust a butcher/slaughterhouse to buy an unknown carcass... that's a lot of beef....

Bought 12 Pounds of Chuck roast Tueday for 99 cents Yes 99 cents A pound. Not to bad A cut

just bought 3/4 of a cow. the cow weighed 1050 lbs going into the butcher. I pd $ 1.30 a lb for him. and at butcher I will pay $25.oo processing fee and .25 Cent a pound hanging weight.
And body know appx. how much freezer space i will need. I have a new 20 cu foot freezer just bought. I hope that will be enough space.
Last cow my friend had from this man we Outstanding!! and TaSTY And tender. Looking forward to this. The cow is hanging at the butcher now. for 14 days.

I butchered last winter. Got 675# of meat and it all fit into my 21 cu foot freezer. I also had about 1/4 of a goat in there (about 25# meat). I could have put a little more in. Have the butcher freeze it for you and pack it in with some air spaces, but very organized so you don't have to search for your meats.

Raised the cow myself from 5 days. Weighed in at about 1200# live weight. The meat was great and really helped on the grocery bills.

I just talked to my dad this week and he said market rate is .85/lb liveweight.
Is that regional?

Well.....Yes and No. It is the average for beef at auction. Your local auction could be higher or lower.

As for the price paid at the butcher. It really depends on your area. The local wages and such. Figure about double the walking price. Plus the killing fee. So if your area they are going by the average noted above figure 1.70/LB plus about 30.00 bucks for the nice white packages .

Around here for hanging beef it is about $2/lb including butchering. Natural raised is about $2 hanging weight. Cutting & wrapping runs .30-.40/lb.

Cutting a wrapping here runs between .60 and .75 cents a pound. Purchase direct from farmer runs from $1.15 to $1.75 a pound live weight. Of course you only get half that. I have a side in my 25 cu ft freezer and it didn't take up that much space-but we started with a small steer, lots of leg. For me, it works out to almost $3 a pound. It may seem high to you folks, but seldom does even cheap ground beef go on sale for $2 a pound.....

We just bought a quarter of grass fed scottish highland beef from a local farmer for $4 a pound butchered weight. It was steep, but it's good stuff.

Here the average is $2.00 hanging weight and $.42 cut/wrap with a $45 kill fee for a whole animal.

We just bought a whole steer for 1.15 lb live weight plus 43 cents per lb dressed weight for processing.

my dad just bought a whole steer here in central indiana. $1.00 a pound live weight plus around 50 cents a pound processing. the steer was around 1200 pounds.

We buy beef from a local farmer, have been for years. In 2005 hamburger was $1.90 a pound, last week (October 2007) it was $2.00, same as what we paid in 2006. I was surprised that it hasn't gone up enough to matter. It is mostly angus or angus cross. We seldom cook a roast or steak, and when we do it is usually venison, so I didn't ask what prices were on other cuts.
