farm insurance

Can anyone recomend a good insurance company for a small farm? We are having trouble with our current provider and are ready to switch. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks for taking the time.

We just switched from American Family to Billings Mutual because American Family went up from $738 to $935 a year. Billings Mutual, which has been in business since about 1890, wrote the policy for $751 a year. We had been with American Family about 15 years and had only made 2 small claims.

Country Companies is the insurance that a lot of FB uses. You have to be a member of FB (yearly dues).

I was a member of FB with Country Co. insurance for almost 12 years. The claims processes (for farm or auto) were painless.

We are no longer with FB (the IL FB is very pro-NAIS)

I don't know much about them except that they write farm insurance, but maybe you could check out Farm Family Insurance -- Google it and you will find their website. Go to the "find an agent" page -- Washington isn't listed -- but down toward the bottom it says "other states". Click on that, put in Washington and pick a city -- there is a drop down box. I just pulled up an agent in Spokane -- the drop down has about 10 names of cities on it, so one ought to be somewhere near you.

Good luck!

Farm Bureau for policy price, hands down. I pay a $20 membership per year, but I save over $2,500 a year on insurance costs over the nearest competitor (last comparison was 2006). FB doesn't pay every piddly lil claim like some of my city friends have, but it is the best for farmers who are not wealthy (like me). Like some others, I don't always agree with FB politics, but money is money in my book.

zukgod - I was with the "good hands folks" for my first 6 months here. I transfered my policy when I moved.. Then since I was out of the city fire department district, I was cancelled by them!! So I shopped around and thru an independant insurance agaent, I now have coverage with "Grange Insurance" out of Washington state. I saved money, and as my insurance agent told me, Grange specializes in coverage for remote houses/ farms. They could not match my premiums on vehicle insurance - I am still with Allstate for that insurance.

Thanks everyone. I will try all of your idea's and see what happens. Man I really don't like this insurance stuff, they certainly don't make it painless. Thanks again.
