FREE WOOD! Everyone can get it!

I found a really neat source fro free wood. I was so excited the guy just looked at me weird since they just throw it away. At Home Depo ( I assume other lumber companies have this too) there are boards with a routed line down the center on just one side. What this was for is when they have the load of lumber banded by those metal bands the board goes at the bottom of the load and the band goes through the routed line to guard the wood from being marred. They come in different widths and lengths. But all are thinner grained and not a soft wood at all. They just through them away. So if you have a project you just need a bunch of smaller cuts anyway (3' - 4') then this would be perfect. I got 2X4's and 2X6's. I plan on using them as a top window sill and bottom window sill on the chicken house windows and cut a piece of plywood to fit to just slide the "window flap" back and forth depending if wanted open or not. I am also going to do the same thing with the 2X6's for the doorway. I had been trying to decide how to do the large front door to chicken house (didn't have a door yet, just big opening). Since winter is coming I need to get a move on building a door and I realized after making the top wire covering that I didn't leave clearance for a door. So if I use the 2X6's with the routed edges already I can just make a sliding door instead and not have to worry about moving top of chicken yard around! It's untreated so I just will paint or deal real well. I thought this also would be wonderful for building brooding cages or so on. What other things do you think could be made from this? Come on those with "southern engineer" degrees or "yankee ingenuity" get you creative juices flowing!

Just make certain it is not treated lumber. You don't want to be burning (or breathing the smoke) from that.
