Starting- Out and Country Stories

I love to read about how folks got started in their homesteading and country life endeavors, and stories about life on the farm.

My friend posted a short article on how she began her fiber farm, and gives recommendations to others who may want to raise fiber animals:

I've been searching for books in this genre on audio. Things to listen to in the car or while knitting or cooking dinner... Anyone know where to find some?

I went to work at an automotive parts stamping plant when I got out of the marine corps. I had been married only 6 months. That summer, the summer of 1992 I found this 77 1/2 acre parcel near my dad's. It had a 900 sq ft shell of a house on it. My brother and I bought it.

I was working nights, and my wife and I was living with my parents. Dad was workiing at this shaprneing shop. This was before he bought it. He was milking cows and doing chores at 4am, then working at the sharpening shop till 3 pm, then comming home and farmming. I got off work at 4:30 am. I went home and helped dad with moring chores then I went to th eplace I bouhgt and worked on this house that was an empty shell. I worked till about noon, slept til 4, ate, and went to the stamping plant. We moved in thanks giving weekend that summer.

Dad bought this shop, I quit the stamping plant, and went to farming full time. It didnt go well. I wanted a our family to farm together, but I was the only one who wanted to farm. I was in the barn twice a day 7 days a week alone. My wife was going to divorce me, and take my kid back to NC with her unless I quit farming, and got a regular job. so after 2 1/2 years, I quit.

I still have the land. I bought the sharpening shop from dad. My wife and I have been to counsiling a few times. I want to farm again someday. I am ging to farm again someday, and Ive told her that she can stay, or go next time.
