There is a nut growers workshop in Wappingers Falls, NY on Oct. 6. For more information contact

I've been to a previous annual meeting of this New York Nut Growers and Northern Nut Growers Association. It was good. This should be good also, plus you'd make good contacts.
This is what the secretary of the organization sent to me:
"My hope is to get folks from the New England states to attend, because at one time walnuts, butternuts, and hickories were easily found in forested areas. As these areas have shrunk, and as the memories of "nutting" are fading with the older generation, it is important to inspire and educate more people about the joys and benefits of planting and caring for nut trees on their farms, on public land, and in their backyards. Nut trees provide food for people and animals, they are environmentally desirable, their timber can be harvested, and their growth and life offers hope for the future."
It's location would make it accessible to most New Yorkers, plus a lot of New England. If you contact the email address I gave you, he could send you a flyer with more details.
