Chocolate syrup

I have been searching for a really good chocolate syrup (to go over ice cream) for some time now, and haven't found a satisfactory one yet. A few days ago there was one posted in one of the threads on this board...But I've lost the thread.

I don't know about y'all here but a search on "chocolate" returns 100's of threads. Can anyone point me to the thread, or have a really good recipe? Bottle is just about dry, but it wasn't that good anyway.

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa

1 cup tap water

2 cups sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Find a 2 quart saucepan. In it, mix the cocoa and water with a wire whisk or fork. Heat the chocolate water over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Add the sugar and continue to stir until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to a full rolling boil. Reduce the heat to medium low and boil for a full 3 minutes. Remove the syrup from the heat. Add the salt and vanilla, stirring to blend. Pour the syrup into a clean pint sized canning jar, or a clean catsup container. Put a good lid on the jar and store it in the fridge. Use this chocolate syrup to make chocolate milk, or serve it over ice-cream. This is remarkably similar to Hershey's Chocolate Syrup in the can.

Melt a bar of dark chocolate with a few glops of cream. Less cream for frosting, more cream for sauce.

Ok, I'm lazy. I think Hershey's special dark syrup is good enough to put on ice cream and bananas.

When my sister and I were kids, and if we were good, then on Saturday nights, mom used to make a box of chocolate pudding (over the stove...not the instant). When it was just ready, we would put a big glob on a bowl of vanilla ice cream. Kinda like hot fudge sundae. I introduced my wife to it, and now, she's hooked.

This is basically the one I use. I boil my water first and add the sugar and choc. I posted on another forum on this site a few weeks back. It is a great syrup.

I prefer hot fudge- which is easily made by melting 1# chocolate chips (milk is better for me) into 1 usual sized can of condensed milk- Eagle brand works well, others are runnier which might be fine for sauce. I usually make fudge with nuts in the microwave but also toss some onto ice cream as I make it if we have it.

Many other recipes for fudge exist; all can be prepared and poured onto ice cream and with this use there are no worries about the fudge sugaring.
