Rabid Bear Killed

I remember we had a bear thread not too long ago:

Rabid bear killed trying to enter Garrett Co. home

Good thing the guy had a gun. Too bad all the commie-libs want to confiscate them.

Michael Stanton, 49, won't be charged with a wildlife violation because the state allows killing bears out of season to defend people and livestock, The Cumberland Times-News reported.

So, if it were in season... Gonna have to get my own gun soon--the 410 won't cut it :P

yeah, the newspaper folk here in my neck of the woods could use some help, lol. i saw an add the other day looking for someone to "stalk" shelves in a greeting card store.

this wasn't all that far from my home. maybe an hour away. rabies has been bad in this area for many years now.

you can get slugs for that 410. makes for a pretty good rifle substitute.

Hoping to avoid a charge of "thread drift" , I got ammo yesterday along with a gun cleaning kit--spent about $32.

A .410 discharged at close range even with bird-shot would rip a mighty big hole in any animal.

I've taken down deer with .410 slugs, so it'll do some damage. I'm not sure it's going to stop a sick, crazed-with-pain bear though. Few things will.

And not that I'm trying to encourage you away from getting another gun. We ALL need more guns.

a .410 shotgun with slugs just might get the bear more upset. But then a rifle chambered in .45-70 Govt. may be too large for ruby jane to handle/ shoot.

We have been having problems with rabid foxes where I live at. So I have several weapons to deal with the bears and mountain lions (.30-06 springfield), foxes (12 gauge Remiongton 870 shotgun), and raccoons (.22LR Browning Buckmark or a CZ-52 in 7.62X25mm Tokarev semi-auto pistols- CZ-52 is one of my CCW weapons). The critters are rather active these days and I see deer right next to the house. The others animals tend to stay further down the hill and I will let them be, until they become a nusiance. I have talked to the Lieutenant of the Game Wardens and the Sheriff's Office animal control officer in case I have to dispatch a bear or mountain lion. As long as they pose a threat, then I can send them to the happy hunting grounds without fear of legal action.

If I get any more firearms (this is your rifle, this is your gun....) This Marine is gonna run out of gun safe space to secure them!!!!
