Gas well allotment

I just received notice that I have gone over my allotment of 200,000 Cubic feet of gas that is given to me by the gas well company. I have owned this house for 2 years and did not go over last year. January and February were extremely cold so I assume that it may have been why. Quite a few people have told me that they have never gone over theirs. Does this sound right? I wonder if my meter is wrong or if I have a leak. Does anyone know where to get coal in NW PA?

Hello, hope you are well.

I am familiar with the free gas allotment of 200,000 cubic feet. I agree, NORMALLY, one does not exceed that amount in one year time. If it were me, I also would want to check meter first. Not sure what your meter looks like exactly, but there might be 4 dials at the top. At bottom, there is a 1/2 foot arrow and a 2 feet arrow. If gas appliances are currently not running (just the pilot lights remained on i.e-hot water tank/kitchen stove),these 1/2 foot and 2 foot arrows should barely, barely, barely be turning.

It might be a good practice for you to monitor your meter. Most companies with free gas users, only check the meter once a year. Do you know what month begins your calendar year usage? Did the gas company take that reading during the specified month they were supposed too? I would talk to the well-tender, if you have one, they are usually the ones around here that reports the reading. Not sure of your set-up situation there. I hope you can get this worked out. Take Care.
