Anybody have their AG buildings separate from their house location?

By separate I mean on the same property but a ways away from the house. Currently our ag/shop building is right next to our house and is very convenient. However the property we are thinking of building on is different. We may have to locate the house at the back of the property on the small hill and the shop/barn/outbuildings, and gardens down in the lower part of the land near the hay field where the animals will be.

This distance is too far to walk for us older folks but seems wasteful to get in the truck to drive to the buildings every time you want to do something there. We are thinking of using an rtv or utv to shuttle between the house and the other buildings.

The property is served by a long private driveway that has entrances to the lower part of the property then continues up the small hill the upper part of the property. We will not be able to see the lower part of the property from the home site because the property is heavily forested, so may have to employ cameras or something to keep an eye on things.

It never dawned on me how nice it has been to have my shop right next to my house like it is now, but now that we are thinking through having to locate the buildings remote from the house on this new property...

Anybody else have their ag buildings/animals/shop buildings/gardens etc located some distance from your house? What kind of difficulties has this presented?

Thanks

Prior homestead in cen TX. Luckily we never had any human predators (except up at the house- someone helped themselves to some gear for my pickup truck I ahd set on the ground next to the drive), but I never knew about chicken or egg predators until the next morning. And also heard a sheep died from the neighbor, having never noticed the illness (pretty quick- well at breakfast, dead before dinner).

I have some pastures and one building away from the house. I use an ATV to get around and it save miles of walking and hours of time

I have 4 Maremmas for security so that hasnt been a problem
