Problems with Menard's product quality?

I'm so through with them.

Of the many perennial plants we've purchased there, none have survived.

We picked up a power washer last spring that quit functioning earlier this summer.

The 4x4 posts we've bought, 30% of them warp so badly they need replaced.

This spring I thought it would be nice to get a laundry pin bag to keep outside. Within a month it disintegrated in the rain. It was made of PAPER!?

We needed a chest freezer, picked that up in May. It barely makes a seal and started frosting inside within days of plugging it in.

And the icing on the cake, we picked up what we thought was a decent gas grill there last summer. Tonight it caught on fire outside the grill and melted the middle knob connections.

No.More.Menards.

Hmmmmm. I've bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff from them. I pick out any lumber I buy myself, so I make sure to get the best ones. The quaility of lumber has come up in the past 4-5 years. I've even bought some of the "house" brand (Tool Shop) tools, and had good luck with them. Did you contact the manufacturer of the grill and freezer? Menard's - around here anyway - it a MUCH better place then HD or Lowes.

Hey.

Don't be lazy...go back with defective stuff under warranty. Menards never gave me any trouble returning defective stuff. Also, why not pay for the extended warranty they offer?

We've never had much trouble with merchandise. But lately it seems to be getting cheaper and cheaper. Especially everything we've bought in the last year.

The warranties are expired, of course. But I'm going to call down their and complain. This is ridiculous.

if the warranties are expired you have gotten atleast a year out of the stuff. We shop there atleast once a month and we will go more often when the new store open in the next month or so.

I agree with the others. You get what you pay for. If you want good appliances/tools, go to a different store, or buy the higher end items. I've noticed some of the washers are cheap china build units that I wouldn't trust for long term use.

4x4's... If they're green, they need to be installed immediately, or stacked so they can't warp while they dry. Standard procedure for green treated wood thats sold wet.

Perennial plants: they have a warranty, I believe. If you've kept the paperwork, they will give you a refund. I think its for more than just the tree's and bushes.

Gas grill: I've had several of the under $100 ones rot out on me. The latest is a stainless steel unit, but the burners are still going after only a few years. It was only half of the price of a comparable unit at Home Depot, so I'm not disappointed.

I'm another of the ones that has spend 10's of thousands of dollars at Menards. Some times (often) they annoy me greatly, but if you're careful, you can get good deals and adequate products.

We shop there at least once a month and have never had any problems.

Of course, Roger hand picks any lumber and we wouldn't buy any appliances or plants there.

I dunno .

Their store music drives me to distraction.

On the wood, the pieces were hand selected by my husband. He picked the driest, straightest posts he could find, and they were installed immediately.

The grill apparently had an automatic igniter that shorted out. It was the wire and the plastic piece it was attached to that burnt. So the other two burners are usable. Just the center one doesn't work. And thinking back on it, that center igniter never worked right. Menard's has been contacted about the grill and the power washer. We'll see in a few days what the response will be.

No problems here either....but I tend to buy their better stuff, and avoid the Chinese made junk.

They are much cheaper than Lowes and Home Rip-off.

I was desperate recently, and needed drywall screws. Paid 5.29 at Lowes, and saw better quality screws at Menards for 3.17 after the fact. I needed a drain stop for our tub....the cheap one at Lowes was almost $9, yet a high quality one at the Mom and Pop plumbing store was $6.50. I find these pricing differences again and again.

Menards wins with me nearly every time.

Thier lumber leaves a lot to be desired. We had to have it delivered because it was too much lumber to haul ourselves and they are an hour away from here. What wasn't full of knots was badly warped. We had a large deck built and even now some of the boards are warping so badly that they have pulled up- and they were screwed down. Even some of the spindles on the railing are twisted. It was too much lumber to pick out ourselves. We returned what we could haul back ourselves in one trip, but they give store credit and not money back. Now they have built a Lowe's in the same town - maybe they are better.

pickapeppa,
They saw you coming! Those warehouse stores pick out one person in every community and they make sure that one person only gets the defective stuff. They have secret cameras, secret retina scans, even secret electro-magnatic aurora detectors so that they can detect you coming up to an hour before you get there. You'd be surprised at all the scuffle and bustle that the stockers do whenever they detect you are on the way. They make sure you are the only one to get the defects.

They do it on purpose, it is a test to see how the residents of the community are apt to react toward defective material. The more you let them get away with selling you defective goods, the more shoddy goods they will bring into the store. Usually they switch victims every year or two. It could be just about that time where they trade you in for another victim! You should be set for life from here on out and will never have to worry about it again.
