Why we're here

A recent thread prompted this:

Isn't one of the main reasons why we're here at HT is to help mentor, share and support the other members? Not to just get information for ourselves. We all walked the newbie walk once. Let's remember that.

I too, get tired of repeated questions, and sometimes wonder why somepne would start a certain topic thread, but many times read them as I still get, new to me, information and sometimes I can share my thoughts/experiences.

Lets play nice

I agree. To me homesteading is a life-long learning process.... I still learn something new everyday.

I have been lucky enough to be told more "here's some advice, and there were some threads on this in the past you might want to search for for more" (sometimes after I've already seen those old threads, and know my question is new, now I'm an old hand) rather than "there was just a thread on this last year idjit!"

It is nice to remind possible newbies to search old threads, and unkind to not even bother doing that and also to decline to share your wisdom if any, but less rude to ignore threads that annoy you in this way than to e-spank the poster.

Why not treat newbies, the same way we would like to be treated. If you think about it, unless you are a person that knows everything, we all are newbies to some degree even the person that THINKS they know everything.

And a thought about those old threads....
depending on how old they are/were they may have been hit by a system glitch or a pruning of the site... maybe not this forum, but it happens.
