I posted this on another forum also, so for interest sake, I just want a more diverse input of ideas to consider.
... suggest some ideas on the pasture use for some kind of livestock, wildlife, or possibly some use also for growing grain or hay, etc. It's probably 2 years, if anything, I want to utilize it. There is continual and seasonal brush clearing going on. The past years the field was mostly mixed, but a heavy growth of goldenrod that's been knocked down this summer thanks to mowing and allowing more room for the lower ground clover to come in and compete better. I sowed about 5 acres of white clover for that project. I'd be looking at 7 acres here.
Right now, if I look at my situation and interests, seems to me that beehives would be best suited. That don't mean something else might be considered, either. Just thinking for now. There are cost considerations. How much is fencing going to cost for 7 acres? Stuff like that. Even beehives would be enough investment to worry about because of electification against bears, the cost of starting that all over again with hives since I only have limited equipment on that....about 2 hives worth. It's at least something.
There are weeds in the pasture. Not to be fooled by the lush clover. If some livestock was raised favouring the clover, it's possible the weeds might win out again...thistle always lingers in the under cover. lol. plus a few others. Not that bad, though. I don't want to use powerful herbicides or expensive chemicals nor raise horses. Goats is always suggested, and I know it might not be a bad idea to consider.
What might you do if you had 7 acres like this, no fencing, and thinking ahead 2 years to prepare it for some use other than deer pasture like I consider it now?
Here's the current picture of it. Much better looking than last year when it was very visible gondenrod blossom covered this same time a year ago.
It's about 7 acres.
