Acronyms instead of spelling the sentance?

Am I the only one who doesnt understand HALF of the accronyms around here?

I want people to spell things out.

There are a few accronyms common to homesteading today, and I understand those, but there are a lot of new people who come in, and just start spewing strings of letters.

Is it really THAT difficult to type a sentance?

Just ask. What acronyms are you wanting defined? Eventually, one picks up on them. There were, and still are acronyms I have to ask about.

Thumbs up

I TOTALLY AGREE with Michigan Farmer! The use of acronyms (in most ANY situation) is presumptive and elitist.

It is not very good communication, in my opinion.

just my 2 pesos worth,
Bruce

WWYD? lol I have no idea what that acronym stand for, except I'll guess. I *think* it might mean "What Would You Do"?

Oh, and in addition to the thing about complete sentences or acronyms, there are some posts where people assume you know what the heck they are talking about. One I ran across the other day that was new to me, and still am not sure what it is (too lazy to find out. lol) is 'Medicine Papers'. What? lol. never mind only acronyms. lol

I think it's "What would you do?"

Gailann, "brb" means "big red bunny" to me.

Technically speaking, I think acronyms are largely against the rules here. If you're really dying to know what something means, you can always ask...or better still, make up your own answer instead, which will probably be more entertaining.

That's just IMHO, of course.

Most of them are pretty easy to figure out.
WWYD I would take to mean "what would you do."
I don't think people use them to appear elitist, just less to type.

Come on that one is easy..

Who doesn't remember WWJD?

This one is WWYD - What Would You Do?

WWJD of course became front page mainstream news about 8 years ago for:
"What Would Jesus Do"

I agree that some are a bit beyond me, but it's really not all that hard to figure it out, KWIM?
(Know What I Mean)

Just think of it as mental olympics and celebrate when you figure it all out.

no way!

it's Be Right Back

medicine papers? prescriptions? health papers?

dunno...

I work at a University where the acronyms are RAMPANT.

Sometimes? They are hysterical.

Oh! A local upscale under-development housing addition is Butler Meadows. Yep. On the gates?

BM

I laughed out loud...

*snicker*

I can beat that. Some years ago, the Philadelphia sports arena that had been named the CoreStates Center had to change its name when CoreStates was purchased by First Union. For whatever reason, they never put an acronym on that building again.

I changed it, didn't know there were acronym rules.....
I was not intending to be condescending, just trying to conserve space.....and I doubt asking for an explanation of a particular acronym ever killed anyone, but hey, I still don't know what all the acronyms are so I must not be the brightest bulb either......but, I am not afraid to ask for clarification, call me new age and crazy if you will!

Lady goes into an A/C sales area and asks for a 2 ton A/C. Salesman says, Lady, A/Cs are no longer sold by tonnage. Today they are sold by BTUs. Lady replies whats BTUs? Reply is British Thermal Units. Lady responds I know nothing about British Thermal Units! I just need a A/C with enough BTUs to cool a BUT the size of a TUB : )

WWJD = What Would Jesus Do?

WWYD = What Would Yahweh Do? :baby04:

On another, more specialized, forum I post on had to create a sticky with all the acronyms, term and inside jokes so that folks could figure out what was going on.

I usually ignore people who use initials for words. That or make up words to fill in the spaces they are too lazy to type.

Thanks for bringing this up, michiganfarmer! It bugs the heck out of me to have to stop to figure out what some acronym means just so I can get the gist of someone's post. I've become familiar with a lot of these abbreviations, but sometimes I just get stuck!

Smiles,
doohap
