new to growing potatoes ... diseased?

I just picked some potatoes and they had white "growths" on them ... white snowflake looking spots. Is this bacterial growth? Disease? Are they ok to eat if I skin them?

Mike, have you had a lot of rain? Do the leaves and stems appear normal? Are the white spots kinda fluffy-like?

Have your plants died back yet? Fallen over and turning brown? If so, then you maybe leaving them in the ground too long. If your plants have dieing you need to go ahead and dig them all up or they may start rotting in the ground. Especially if the soil is still damp and temperature starts getting too hot.

yes, a lot of rain lately. Yes, they are dying back ... still green some though. The only ones with the white are the bottom ones ... the upper ones are small but ok. There aren't any eyes on them yet either.

Are they ok to eat?
