Don't get on the phone; don't go in the bathroom or kitchen.

It is raining the hardest I have ever seen and going sideaways.

I am seeing lightning stikes everywhere. I am hoping no fires and siiting in the middle of the front room. It is very scary.

With sideways rain consider whether tornadoes ever occur, even rarely, in your area.

I'd consider going to ground.

The water is running down the drive an inch deep. We live in the mountains , we are high ground and I don't think torado's are a problem. It looks like the worst is past, All the horses are fine.
We just got more rain than we had in the last 6 months

That was crazy.

I hope everything is ok, and your house didn't get any damage. Are your dogs calmed down yet? Poor babies, I have one that shivers, whines and pees when it storms, I feel so sorry for him.

It sounds like you got caught in some freaky storm. Be careful when you go out for downed power lines and tree limbs and stuff.

The sun is now shining! A few more clouds might move through.

Or problem now is forest fires from smoldering lightning hits. The year we finished the house it came within a quarter of a mile and the forest service used the end of our property as a base for over a week.

The insurance is all paid up!

Painterswife-
When you go out & inspect, look all around, not just at the obvious high points. I've seen lightning blast a four-foot splinter out of the top of a wooden pole then follow the electric lines 75ft+ to go to ground through the barn. And DH's folks once had a toilet split in half when the roof vent was hit.
I hope everything is okay at your place.

when your done shaking, check the main ground rod and your burried ground lines.

I had a strike ones that blew the ground wire in half and roasted the ground rod clamp, and it needed repaired.

We are in Alpine but hope to be in your neighbourhood when we get this place sold. We are looking in the Cody to Lovell area tough would love it if we could find a 20 or 40 acres near Sheridan.

My mother-in law is in Buffalo and my father in law is in the VA hospital in your town.

............If you have large\tall conifers close too the roof line of your home it would be wise too have someone ground them by placing #6 solid copper wire around the trunk , starting at the top and every 5 to 8 feet or so and bond all these "grounded rings" with two vertical runs of the same #6 all the way down to the base of the tree and connected too ground rods . If lighting hits a tree it tends too travel on the inside of the bark because the moisture there is much more conductive than on on the outside . It can and has jumped from the tree over too the house and thence into wiring and appliances . And , even better would be too install lighting arrestors along the ridge line of your home too dissipate any potential static charge from building UP around your home . A good system will even absorb high levels of induced voltage from a close proximity strike nearby . Hope your home is OK . , fordy

No trees next to the house. We are next to national forest and have no cumbustibles beside the house. Defensible space most important.

Ground seems fine and untouched. We have a metal roof. I can not see any
marks or anything.

Thumbs up

My house SHOOK 3 days ago from a lightening strike. Today I noticed a live limb hanging from a tree about 20 feet from the house. I wondered if that was what the lightening struck.......

Glad you're ok,
Bruce

Eek! I was driving home from Evanston when a similar storm hit a couple days ago. Yesterday (Sunday) I had lightning strike the ground not 5 feet from where one of my horses was standing, I'm amazed it hit the ground and not him. Scared the bajeebas outta me for sure, I had my father in law (who is staying with us right now) out there telling me to get my butt inside cause of the lightning. He doesn't get the whole making sure the animals are safe thing I guess lol. Anywho, the storm passed us rather quickly and we ended up going fishing, but we've had a lot of that really rough lightning lately, the thunder makes the house shake like you wouldn't believe.
I'm glad everything is ok up there!
