cedar siding

Looking for advice --
Our house was built in 1989 and we bought it in 2002 -- it looked like the cedar siding had not been cared for or stained by the original owners. We meant to have it pressure washed and stained when we bought it -- where did 5 years go!?!

It clearly needs some attention but I am wondering if we could be too late. I know it should last a long time but it has been neglected!

Give it a try. If pressure washing does not remove the black mildew stains, then you may have to resort to "sand" blasting with a soft material like ground corn cobs.

cedar will surprise you as it is a very durable longlasting wood for siding. try pressure washing a spot to check if it is maybe too far gone if not wash and treat with a good water repellant/stain. I would not use Thompson's for your siding.

Instead of using just water to pressure wash, you may want to pre-treat the siding with Jomax House Cleaner and Mildew Killer by Zinsser: http://www.zinsser.com/pdf/Jomax_brochure.pdf
