Now heres a big String Bean!

When I went out to get coffee today the lady who works there picked a 31 1/2 inch string bean from her garden and brought it to work with her. I thought I would show it to you. I'll find out more tomorrow as to variety and growing conditions.

I wonder if those are called "Yard Long" beans? I have some of them growing on trellises, and will have some for supper tonight. They're pretty good.

I grow "yardlongs" too. I just don't let them get that long when I pick em to eat. They're more tender when they're around 14" or so.

They are also called asparagus beans.
I have them but we really don't care for them.
Too mild.
They are really a cow pea aka black eyed peas.
They are good to eat either green about 10 inches long or let them mature and dry and cook like black eyed peas.
They are tiny beans and are a pain to shell for that reason.
Also bugs love them so if you are an organic Gardener like I am you also have to discard the ones that have been eaten on.
They come up volunteer very easy. I have not planted them in years but have them every year.
