Work boots
Time to get some new boots. I'd like to find some that are comfortable, long wearing, and most importantly don't cost a fortune. Anyone got name brands or stores you'd recommend? I don't need steel toes or wicking liners. I prefer leather to pleather. Looking for a 1/2 size in wide (12 1/2 EEE) and seems a lot of folks shy away from those.

Red Wing and Wolverine are two quality brands of work boots and shoes. Unfortunately, quality and cheap don't fit togather. Sometimes "you get what you pay for".

Farmerwilly2,
I've used Mason Shoe Company boots exclusively for more than 40 years. Individuals used to be dealers, but I think that is long gone. I ordered from catalogs for a long time, and for the past few years I've ordered via the internet. I get "Farm Boss' 6 inch high boots for about $90.00. They last for about three years. I'm not sure if they have size 12 1/2 or not. I always buy size 13 and wear two pairs of socks.
Good luck on your choice.

I am tickled pink with mine and wear them nearly every day. They're worth every penny.

I will go for a good quality boot for hunting but for work, I go cheaper. I used to buy good boots but it doesn't make much of a difference. On the average I go through three pairs of work boots every two years. Bought a pair of Knapps about 25 years ago for $90. They lasted three months. Ran into a guy who was proud his work boots were seven years old. I told him all it means is you don't do much work. A good fit is all that matters.

My husband gets the cheapo's from walmart, and they don't last more than 4-6 months, but that's with him working hard in them all day, every day. He does also put plenty of water-protectant on them, and when they start to come apart, he globs on lots of Shoe-Goo (that's what it's called), and that will keep them going anywhere from weeks to months longer. He usually uses 1/2-1 tube of Shoe Goo (costs about $5, I think) per set of boots, spread throughout 2-4 applications, before the boots are totally and completely dead.
All that said, a friend gave him a nice pair of Redwings, and he LOVES those, and they will last for years, because he only wears them for working on the weekends around here, not to his job everyday.

My Redwings are a pair that my dad bought decades ago, and when he died over 12 years ago, I got them. Don't wear them all the time, but I do wear them regularly. Still in good shape, but finally getting to show wear. Looks like new ones are of similar quality, but of course it might take a decade to tell for sure. Make sure to try a few different styles, and go to a shop that has a knowledgable sales person, as different styles may be made a bit differently, and fit different foot types better.

we both wear skechers, they are very comfortable and durable.
the one pair I wear to work everyday(I work 12 hours ,on my feet) I have had since July of 2001. they were on sale for $ 33.00 ,at a lumberyard closeout.
also, skechers have really good sales on the larger sizes at the
"kohls" stores.
In my opinion, they are the best for the money.
I also have another pair that I wore when asphalting, I wore them everyday, tor 2 1/2 years, I still wear that pair to the barn and such. They are almost 10 years old.
skechers are made for work...
Be good to your feet, its worth it down the road.

My SO used to do this. Didn't matter if he bought a good pricey pair, they still didn't last any longer than the cheap ones from Wally world, but that was just the nature of his job at the time.

Sketcher's are good. I got mine already broken in from Goodwill for under $5.00, and have been wearing them as a summer work boot in the garden and barn, etc., for over two years.

DH swears by Justin lace-up work boots. He has had his current pair for quite a while. They run about $120, which is not cheap, but they are leather, comfortable, and durable.

Need to find some surplus combat boots, they were well made, light, and if you kept a little kiwi on them lasted a long while.
Last pair and best pair I've ever owned were Western Chiefs and I got them off of E-Bay for around $30. Comfortable as a sock out of the box and wore for years. Still hoping to find someone to resole them and I can get a few more years out of them. I guess I'm just a bit picky about my boots.

For years my former employer had a account with Knapp shoes. They made what they called an electricians shoe. I loved them. Unfortunately Knapp is now out of business. Now I buy Redwings. I have knee and ankle problems, if I even look at a pair of cheap shoes, I won't be able to walk for a week!
