Yay!! Baby Ducks (pics) - Homesteading Questions
This is the first time we've ever hatched out ducks, and we've had ducks for 4 or 5 years.

They're very cute. A bit late in the season for ducklings though, isn't it?

maybe we need to take a picture with a newspaper and the date showing?
it may be late, but here they be!
our first clutch of guineas, years ago, showed up in February with snow on the ground!
don't know where they get their 'schedule' but am just glad for the babies!

we may butcher a few of them.
i like duck eggs for baking but have no idea how to get them laying in one spot?
shoot, i don't even know how often they lay eggs...?

Maybe just a bit, but we had a cool wet spring, so maybe the ducks knew what they were doing?
Also, we had some different dogs around here for a while, and it's not too unusual for birds to lose one nest and start another, so that could have put them back a few weeks.
Anyway, I'm just happy as a duck in a pudle that she hatched them at all.

Not at all. I'll be getting ducklings through September.

Awwww... just adorable! Nuttin' like baby duckys!!
My ducky gals will lay all year long, and out-lay my best chickens. The secret is that ducks will lay in the early morning, if ya can coop 'em up before letting them out in the morning, to get their eggs. Provide a secluded, dark clean nest of hay or pine shavings on the ground,& keep 'em cooped in till later in the morning. A well-fed duck like a Rouen will lay year round,out-lay the best chicken!
Corny, you ever consider setting up a website for your photos?--Ya should!

Love your pictures. Thank you for the reply.
Reason I was wondering, my neighbor gave me some baby ducks and they are growing up and one looks a lot like your momma duck. The others are white and brownish. Some lady had hatched them off and gave them to the neighbor and the neighbor only wanted 8 so she gave all the others away. No one knew what kind they were.

These are my two week old khakis enjoying the tub. Rouen is domestic mallard, your hen could be either, the difference being that the mallard can fly. Yay!! Baby Ducks (pics) - Homesteading Questions
