Can anyone ID this owl by call?

I am trying to identify an owl (or other nocturnal bird) that we hear in the forest in NE WA. We hear it mostly at night, sometimes daytime. Its call almost sounds like a bell tone, one "ping" or 2-3 in a row. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Thanks...

but seriously...

I just got to thinking it could be a mockingbird imitating a bell. But I'm sure you would hear it making other bird notes at the same time. I once heard one (a mockingbird) trying to sound like a chain saw. They are a riot!

They are a riot. I have heard them do car alarms in the city. That cracked me up when I first moved to Boston.
Sorry for the drift. I have no idea about the bell sounding night bird.

I hate when they do hawks.
It is possible they are Mockingbirds.

There is an owl that makes a beep....beep....beep...beep hoot that sounds identically like the warning horn used when a truck backs up. Is that what your birds sounds like?

OK - I'll be the party pooper and be serious

I use the Cornell Guide to Ornithology - You just need to scroll through the possibilities but they do have recordings of bird calls on the id's.

Before you get too focused on owls, could very well be another bird...

Good luck!

I thought it might be a saw-whet owl, though we only hear one to three sounds in a row. Maybe it is another bird; I was told by a native that it was an owl so I assumed he was right. I don't think mockingbirds live in our area, but it sounds like they are pretty clever! As I've tried to identify this and other birds, my dog goes crazy looking for the birds calling from the computer!

I have Mockingbirds all around my house. They breed and stay around all year. I just love them. They will come sit on the fence or highline wire. They really put on a show. My Granddaughter and I whistle different sounds and they will do their best to repeat the same sounds back at us. I have read a Mockingbird can make up to 40 different bird sounds.
