Japanese Beetles

I hate them.

Any ideas for how to get rid of them without using Sevin dust?

Twp ways:

1. Cup of water only half full. Locate the beetles and let them fall into the cup. Most will drown, but we feed them to the chickens.

2. Beetle trap in chicken yard. Cut the end out of the bag. Tape it to a piece of PVC pipe that empties to just above a bowl of water. The chickens and guineas will stand around just waiting for them to fall in the water.

You also have to take care of the Japanese beetle grubs in the soil or you'll be right back where you are next year.

I've had good results using milky spore. Just about due for another application after... hmmm... guess it's been a good five years. The first couple of years, the spore multiplies in the ground, killing off more and more of the grubs. (And they are some UGLY looking bugs!)

I doubt they'll ever be eradicated, but you can control them.

Pony!
