Tractor Joyriding!

Tractor Joyriding! - Homesteading Questions

Well, not really joy riding. It was a necessary trip out back to the dump/compost site with rakings from the goat stable. It's over 90 degrees out, and humid, and gas is too expensive to waste, so it wasn't truly a joyful ride 'til the end.

On the way back, while passing the various wild blackberry patches, I managed to pick & eat my dessert! The blackberries are huge, juicy and sweet this year. Yummm!

I really do like my li'l ol' tractor. It's lady-sized, easy to operate, and has just enough hp for the jobs that need doing around my farm. Over 50 years old, and still going strong. They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

Looks like what I learned to drive. My Uncle taught me to drive one of these back in 66 abd 67. I was not big enough to reach the break and the clutch at the same time. I would have to jump from one to the other. Luckly the gas was on a level and not a pedel. I had so much fun back then. Wish I had one of these now, it sure would come in handy.

I have a 1949 8N. My brother kept telling me it was worthless and won't do anything. He's quit now that I have proven it a valuable machine to have around.

ROFL I figured when I saw the title to the thread that it was gonna be a teenager taking a joyride on a tractor. I recall my brother getting drunk one night and pulling into someones hayfield and in his inebriated state he decided it would be a hoot to bale hay by moonlight. No tellin what the farmer though the next day when he went out to his field.....no tellin what those bales looked like either!

One sweet ride

I agree that those 9N, 2N, & 8N Fords are one sweet ride. They have a quiet simple sound and are easy to operate. Everyone should experience one sometime in their lifetime.

Having said that I'll be a dissenter and say that indeed they don't build them like they used to. My modern Ford will work circles around those. In physical size mine is just a little smaller. It has more horsepower, better traction from the front wheel assist, remote hydraulics to operate cylinders on implements or whatever, stronger power for lifting 3 pt. implements, a great front end loader that detaches quickly, etc.

You get the picture--I'm as proud of my little modern Ford as you folk all are of your sweet little ones too. Nope, they don't build 'em like they used to. Whew.

LOL, Windy! Sounds like you have a great little tractor there. You do a whole lot more with yours than I do with mine, however. Me and my ol' gal are content to bumble along; we're both a little arthritic

I've been out "joy riding" in the hot Missouri sun myself all week! We are back home on our land doing some clearing, it's definitely HOT! But it is indeed a joy to be back in a tractor seat

We have an old 'red belly' also. But it doesn't run more often than it does. I love it tho-we fight over who gets to mow w/it.

LOL! I wondered if anyone would get that. It's a IH 706 Farmall. Wa-a-ay too much horsepower for me! I used to scare myself driving it! I sold/traded it for some much-needed electrical upgrading on the farm.

That's one sweet little 8N there. I sure wish I had one of those utility boxes to mount on the 3 point. It looks real handy. I don't know which is more fun sometimes, the tractor or the snowmobiles. The Ford is far more useful though.

My neighbor was picking blackberries last week and got startled by a bear. I didn't think we had them in this part of the state.

My dad used to have a TO-20. I sure love those little Fords and Fergies. Mine is worth it's weight in gold to me. I would like to get a bigger tractor someday. I am partial to old Olivers.
