appologies up front

First I apologize for posting this in this forum but I don't know how else to get my question answered...

I find I can look around in most forums that I find interesting but I can not reply to the posts .... I thought maybe it was a glitch in the software or server and let it go for a week or so , in the hopes of it straightening out and then come back and find it still doesn't work..I waited a month or so and same thing.

I don't post a lot and that is because I won't post on something that I don't know anything about.... no sense posting garbage or getting into a pigfight with someone ... don't like that.....

But I have come back from time to time and find I still can't post....

So what does it take to actually be a member of this forum???

I have been places where post numbers count,,,, I don't believe it just postiing in the foums I am allowed with dumb things so that my numbers look good, so if that is it...guess I don't belong here.......

Maybe I have to ask an admin or something,,,, if so could someone point me in the right direction as to how to do that???

Just a greenhorn trying to be polite, so if someone could help me out here, I would appreciate it,,,, and you can go back to your normal discussions now... Thanks

Mods and admins are more likely to see your question here:
http://homesteadingtoday.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31

I don't know all the details, but I know there are some posting restrictions on new members to avoid trolls.

That is common practice. I have some restrictions at my forum for new members, too.

You only have 9 posts. I think they go by post count.

Er ...aren't you replying in this thread?

Is it that you aren't allowed to post on other peoples threads?

Or is it one of those masonic handshake sub forum things?

It's all very complex.

Have you had your retinal scan and your fingerprints done yet?

I found that after extensive background checks, a word from the pope, a letter from the heads of state of at least three allied countries and proof that I could balance a spoon on my nose that once allowed to post no one listened to me anyway.

The FAQ says "If you are new to Homesteading Today - you will not be able to start a new thread in General Chat until you have been here for awhile and have participated in a friendly and helpful fashion on some of the other areas of our site."

Not sure exactly what that means.

I think that one has to have so many posts to post in the GC forum. That is because they want people not to be here just for the General Chat. It is a homesteading forum after all. Some people have been known to only go there and not any place else.

Talking

Have you had the Body Cavity Search done yet? You'll be allowed to post anywhere after that's taken care of.

For a long time I read and never posted, but then I only posted in the livestock forums, and completely didn't even realize the other forums where here or would be of interest. There is alos forums that aren't "Open" such as the fellowship forum.

Golly, I didn't even venture into GC for a long time. The warning to wear flame-proof undies let me know that I'd probably be better off avoiding that one. So I don't even know if there was a waiting period for GC.

I have wandered in from time to time, but it's not usually what I'm into.

I'm happy enough noodling around the other forums, as is evidenced by my numbers. But I've never had a problem getting answered in the other forums.

Pony!

Maybe it's your name, your handle - Thorny man. It does infer you may be problematic. I bet if you changed your name to Bumble Bee or Puff Dumpling you'd be in GC like a shot.
