Looking for a couple links.

Does anyone have any links handy to websites that tell how commercial egg "factories" produce eggs?
One of the people at work refuses to believe that there is any thing wrong with the methods used in producing eggs for public consumption by the big producers. I'm looking for something that would be a graphic explanation for him.

Thanks for any help!

If you do a search for PETA or Animal Liberation Front, and add 'battery hens' to the search, you'll get lots, but perhaps a bit more amplified than reality.

Years ago when I lived in Wisconsin a local egg producer advertised laying hens for fifty cents each.
My neighbor and I decided to "rescue" 50 of them to divide up and add to each of our flocks. When we got there we were taken into the laying house. I was never so shocked in my life!
The lights were kept very dim. There were 8 chickens in each wire cage that was about two feet square. Their toenails were at least an inch and a half long due to just sitting in the cages and their top beaks were cut so they couldn't peck each other in the small confined space. They also had sores on their bellies also due to their lives in a small wire cage. There was barely enough room for them to move around.
Anyway, we brought the 50 home and added them to our flocks. I put them in the henhouse so they could get to know where they were supposed to be. They didn't know what a roost was and just sat on the floor. They didn't know how to eat out of a feeder. I was thinking that they would learn from the other chickens I had. They could barely walk due to the long toenails and because they hadn't been able to walk at all for who knows how long. A third of them died the first week. The rest finally found out how to be outside during the day but they couldn't really "hunt and peck" because of their clipped top beaks. I felt really sorry for them.
Too bad your friend couldn't visit an egg producing farm. He/she would get a real eye opening experience.

Thanks for the links!

This guy is one that doesn't believe that farm fresh eggs are worth more than he can pay in a store and that lead to the discussion of factory egg production.

I've made my point.
