Toilet rings, need advice

I just put in a cork floor, 1/2" in height and the rubber ring that the toilet was originally put on was 1/2" thick, now I need a 1" thick toilet ring to account for the rise with the new cork floor, do they have these rings in a 1" thickness? I tried the toilet with the original ring and it leaked after a few mins, yes the bolts were snugged down. If a 1" ring can't be found what do I do? I don't want to have to cut away the cork from under the toilet to get the toilet to it's original elevation if I can help it. Thanks Chris

Two wax rings, one on top of the other should take care of the problem. But then I'm not a plumber.. or I'd be charging you for this..

Hey.

They make wax toilet rings that are the thickness you want. Use one with a rubber center for better sealing. I don't think a cork floor is the hot ticket for sanitation around a toilet. By the way, cork has been used as gasket material for a long time.

BTW: I don't know what the codes are in Canada, so I don't know if you have wax rings like we have in the US. What's with the inches, I thought you guys were metric?

I don't know I just use inches a lot, most people in Canada use centimeters, but I prefer inches. Thanks for the advice. Chris

You can get thicker wax rings or you can put two together. If you do use the rings with the center plastic "funnel" be sure that you are not draining very hot water into the line near that toilet -- those center plastic parts have been known to warp and close off the toilet flow. They also make a gasket type ring for toilets that is harder to compress and comes in several thicknesses. The toilet should sit on your new floor so don't cut it to fit around the toilet.

Rocky Fields, the thing with the metric system is that some of us predate the inception of it's use in Canada so we're stuck with asking our kids how many centimeters of snow is being forecast or stick our head out the door to check the temperature so the country is now a funny blend of metric & imperial

it is called...........

a "reinforced wax" ring and it is 1"tall, comes with 3 1/2 " bolts instead of 2 1/2" bolts.
used one last Tuesday.

The secret is to set the toilet, just snug the bolts. Let it sit, maybe a long cup of coffee. snug it some more.
The idea is, it takes longer for the reinforced wax to compress.
Good luck.
