Olympics and the real estate market?

Curious as to whether anyone here lives near (or in) a town that has hosted the Olympic Games? What happened with the real estate market?

We're less than two hours south of Vancouver, BC and I'm wondering if we'll see any substatial difference in home values when the 2010 games get a little closer.

Prices went up in Atlanta. One of the bigger issues caused by the games was the displacement of renters near the venues. Their leases were not renewed as the time for the event approached. Their former apartments were rented for extraordinary amounts for a short period of time before/during/after the games. I'm not sure that being two hours away will be close enough to make a difference, but it could.

We lived in Stone Mountain (outside of Atlanta, and Stone Mountain Park hosted events ) when it was there.
Lots of folks rented out rooms and some even rented out their houses during the Olmpics (although I am not sure where they went?)

I remembered lots of rooms and homes being rented out in Atlanta, but I don't remember the sales price of homes going up.

I also remember lots of telecommuting and odd shifts to avoid typical rush hour traffic.

My parents had rental homes about 45 minutes outside of Atlanta (Newnan) at the time of the olympics. Rental prices went up significantly, but home prices did not. They had people frantically calling them for a place when they were ousted out of their rentals in Atlanta.

My dad was on a tourism board at the time also, and tourism went way down that year. Unless attending the olympics themselves, people tended to stay away. From what he said, the whole state was affected.
