Insurance Notice
This is what I received in the mail yesterday.
Notice of Non Renewal (home insurance)
There have been physical changes to the property which result in the property becoming unacceptable.
Due to the following underwriting factors this risk is unacceptable
due to the ineligible breed of dog-CHOW.
The ins. company sent a notice saying they were going to re-evaluate the property a few months ago and came out and remeasured everything.
Then the county came out to measure the chicken house that I never got a building permit for(busted)! I haven't heard anything on that yet.
The Chow is not even a threat. We have had him for 8 years.
What kind of recourse is there if any?
Find another ins. company?

That's about it. They can drop you for any reason. If you have your car, health or life insurance with that company, I'd move that too, and make sure they know why.

Our policy is similar, if you have a chow, pit bull and one other breed I can't remember they will drop you. If they find out you have a trampoline they will also drop you. You have to read you policy very closely.

What it amounts to is your either your risks are more than they want to be responsible for, or a combination of your risks and your credit score are an unacceptable combination.
The best choice here is to shop around. With all our animals Farm Bureau was a good choice for us. You will pay a membership fee each year in addition to your insurance, but the company "gets" the whole animal thing. We've been very happy with Farm Bureau, especially since we got to put a wood furnace rider on the policy for only $50. A lot of insurance companies don't want to insure homes that heat with wood.

All of are insurance is through them with the exception of health insurance.
We have had them for close to 20 years.
There have been some minor claims and not many at that.
We were hit by lightning last year and it was under 5k.
Another was water damage about 10 years ago that was under 5k.
DW hit a deer last year and that was 1k.
I feel like we are being targeted for some reason.
We have paid in alot more than that.

I was dropped on a Farm one time because my DW told them to come back when I was home.

I doubt you're being targeted by anything other than a computer program that flagged your dog as a risk factor.
I'd call them up and let them know you received their notice, and tell them that if your house is too much of a risk for them, your cars and your life must be too, because they both reside at the house, therefore you'll be canceling your other policies unless they reconsider.
If they want to continue receiving those monthly premiums for your auto and life insurance, they will. If not, then they aren't worth doing business with.

It looks like Farm Bureau is the first one to check.
I'm not getting rid of the dogs because we are isolated
and need visual/noisey deterent. Plus they look after the animals.
If I have to go get someone out of there car then they are doing there job.
I know ahead of time if someone is coming down the drive.

Thats strange, once when I was shopping for insurance, Farm Bureau told me we couldn't be insured if we had even one dog on the farm! I argued, cause farms have dogs--she said that was their policy--and wouldnt sell insurance to us.

Looks to me like the insurance companys don't want to have to pay anything out ,just sit there, fat, dumb, and happy to take your money. One by one they eliminate all the things that might result in a payout. No one wants to be turned down by an insurance company, it is scary, and the company knows this, so they use psycology on you. The insurance companys have us by the short shorts. If my insurance co. knew I have a firearm on the premise, even thought they don't insure it, they would cancel me in a microsecond!

Exactly. Most of the country isn't aware of what's happened in Florida. Due to all the hurricane damage in the passed few years, the insurance companies decided they no longer want to offer home owners insurance. Almost every major carrier has pulled out.
Of course, they're still more than happy to supply the fine citizens of Florida with car, health, and life insurance.
They need to pass a law that says if you want to sell any type of insurance in a state, you must sell all types of insurance, or you can pack your bags and take your business out of the state entirely. None of this picking and choosing BS.

Farm Bureau sucks if you get auto insurance through them. I was involved in a car accident in 2005 that made it to where I could not work. They have been fighting paying me monthy and it has almost cost me my home. After I was involved in the accident my payment was not taken out of my saving account like it was suppose to be so I went in with cash to pay it. They told me to deposit it and they will redraw. I checked back in a couple days and they said everything was fine. I got notified by my bank (who my house is through) that I hadnt had insurance for 2 months. Never got a notice from Farm Bureau though... go figure. I like state farm myself. They have no problem with my animals... I have a rottie and had a pitbull while I had them also.

State Farm has been good for us. I called them when we were thinking of getting a horse, then the cows, etc. They know what we have here and haven't raised us or anything. Even with our three large dogs and a trampoline.

Just a little note about Farm Bureau insurance. Each state or in some cases, several states together, are separate companies. It is not a nationwide company. Each state Farm Bureau has its own insurance company. I am aware that some states have gone together to spread their risk but it is still not one nationwide company like State Farm or Allstate. I know this because I used to work in a Farm Bureau office.

Bluebonnet,
what is YOUR opinion about this company? If you don't mind sharing since you formerly worked there?

There's an idea. There wouldn't be much of a dog left after the hair is gone.
And as long as he didn't stick his tongue out (black).

As I stated each state is a totally different company. I can only speak to KS FB. They have generally treated us decently, tho at times I have wondered about prices, but sometimes you pay for what you get.

I was relieved to see that American Bulldogs aren't on the list -- but wonder why poodles and chihuahuas aren't!
When I worked as a vet tech, we were always extra careful around the little "ankle biter" dogs, because you never knew when one was going to try to take a piece out of you. And they could do some serious damage, too. One of the techs had to have stitches because of a toy poodle. Nasty little thing...
