removing mildew

I'm getting ready to paint our eves and trim and I noticed theres quite a bit of mildew (especially on the eves) I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a good way to remove this. I've got access to a pressure washer, so I was hoping someone could suggest a soap or something I could use it it.

Spray it with a bleach/water solution with a small amount of dishwashing liquid. I wish I could remember the exact ratio of bleach and water...I think it's 1bleach:4water. Use a garden spray to appy, let it sit a while, then rinse with the pressure washer.

thanks cf. With you folks help I'm going to beat this house into submission and get it ready to sell.

Been out priming the garage today.. Sure is hot.. Got 2 sides left but will have to wait. Suppose to rain this afternoon. But I don't have the other two sides ready anyhow. Ah well. Good excuse to start dejunking the house/basement.

If the eve is high off the ground, you can rent a commercial power washer that will reach it without getting on a ladder. They're not too expensive, and get the job done in a hurry. If you are on a well, watch water usage. They can use a lot of water in a hurry. Best wishes in whatever you choose to do.

Hey.

After you remove the mildew, mix an anti-mildewcide into your paint...it comes in a packet...sold in the paint department just for that purpose.

Hey CF, it used to be 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, but they cut the strength of bleach way down. So, !/4 is right. ALso, if you use dishwashing soap, it will make chlorine gas, and thats not good. Use TSP (trisodium phoshate) or SpicandSpan. It will work almost as well with just the bleach and water, but a wetting agent helps. You want to spray it on and watch. The mildew should disappear. If it doesn't, rinse and repeat.
