Depending on the make of hammer mill you have, you should be able to change the screens to adjust the size of the finished product. If you can't get your's to work, look for a "Burr grinder". I have a Letz that runs off of the PTO of my tractor, or can be run with a belt, or can be adapted for hand grinding. With these, you can get different sized plates for different sized feed. You can also adjust the plates in or out to get fanything from flour to chunks. I use mine to grind feed for chickens. I grind the corn and add milo, wheat, dried bread (from bakery surplus store), dog food, catfood, oats, DE, or anything I have on hand at the time. It will mix as it grinds. Nothing better. I can grind a 55 gallon drum of kernal corn (and anything I mix with it) in about 20 minutes. Most of that time is taken up in HANDLING the feed, not mixing or grinding it. I paid $25 for my Letz grinder. It is even the tow behind model with an auger. It is one of the best things I have ever bought. The chickens love the feed and love to "help" grind, too!
