Need Car Hauled from Texas to IN

I purchased a really small, really light car in Texas (near Houston) and am looking for a way to ship it back home. Any Homesteaders out there who live in Texas or Indiana and will be travelling in the near future willing to pick it up for me? If you think you are interested, PM me and we can work out the details, or if you have had xperience with car haulers, please post it to this thread.

Thanks in advance!

Jon

If the car is licensed and running you could probably go Amtrack or greyhound and pick it up yourself.

That is certainly a thought, but I don't have enough vacation time to do it myself, and I don't trust it to make the drive from Texas back to Indiana. It is a 1966, so all kinds of things could go wrong. Thanks for the idea, though.

If I had a hitch I could possibly do it for you? I'm driving a Volvo Wagon 5 Sp
so it would have to be REAL LIGHT ;-) On the bright side, since I'm moving I
could load a bunch of junk in it and make more room for me and dog...

ps
I'm going to MN. Is it a Corvair?

I have some 'contact' with some car hauling companies. I don't think of them do personal vehicles hauls anymore but they might be able to give you some info. You can call Waggoners Trucking at 800-999-9097 and ask them they USED to do POV hauls.

i will pass on my small amount of experience (it isn't much). you have bumper hitches, front end dollies and trailers. i had someone use a bumper hitch once to haul a 1972 olds cutlass and it bent the bumper where it made contact with the hitch. i wouldn't use one of those. the dollies work pretty well, but make sure the rear wheel/axle bearings are road worthy, especially for such a long haul. it would be bad to use the dolly and have the bearings lockup halfway home. that could ruin some stuff really fast. i recommend a trailer.

Nope, but about the same size. Believe it or not, it is a 2-cycle 2-cylinder old East German jobbie. Great gas mileage! (No speed, though...)

Just a hobby car for fun. Got a quote back from a shipper today - door-to-door $650. I may take them up on it....

I bought a VW double cab pickup in Colorado about 20 years ago--a friend found it for me. We were going to drive out and tow it home, but decided to borrow my father-in-laws Ford pickup with a camper in the bed, and rented a U-Haul trailer to bring the VW home to Wisconsin. I was glad that I didn't tow the VW but used the trailer instead. Still have the VW. $650 for shipping it may be a good deal, considering the price of trailer rentals and gas today, and the time you would save.

I do know personally a couple of people who have bought vehicles on eBay and had them shipped cross country with no problems--at least no problems with the shipping company!!

Talk to some local independent haulers you know. Truckers hauling light loads might be willing to haul it as a way to increase their freight load and offset their fuel costs.

I saw a skateboard on the interstate a couple weeks ago with a minivan boomered down behind a couple of industrial coolers.

Chances are iffin it's a 66' it's rear wheel drive and would be towed backwards or with the driveshaft removed, justa thought.
