Well water hardness scale

Can anyone tell me where I can find a scale determining the hardness of water? What is the range? 0 to what 30, 50?? Mine is 15. Just want to determine where mine is on the scale. Thanks Chris

It's not really a scale, it's a measurement of the amount of dissolved solids. 15 gpg (grains per gallon) is fairly hard water. It can also be expressed in ppm (parts per million) by multiplying by 17.1.

What do you do to get this number? Does one go to a County Extension Agent with a water sample or ?

Around here you can get this number along with PH from the well driller or get a sample kit from the health dept. and let them test it. Mine was just drilled and is 6.7ph and 2 parts.
