is it too late for 'taters?

Some friends let me play in their garden, so I put in four tomato plants, three little rows of green beans, two rows of peas, a short row of onions and one mound of cucumbers.

There's a little itty, bitty patch left for me and I wondering if I could put in a little hill of potatoes. The ground has lots of horse manure in it and I have access to some straw.

What do you think? Is it too late in the season? (here in NW PA)

How about if you life in NE Arkansas-is it too late to put them in here? I've never tried growing spuds in the south, I have no idea when to get them planted.

I know it's time for planting sweet potatoes here in Central Texas. Does anyone know if I could plant yellow potatoes this late in the year?

wow... it's harvest time

Can it be two months since i posed the question?

Some of you 'big time' gardeners might chuckle, but it has been such fun to pick green beans, peas, lettuce and a couple cukes.

For about .50 cents worth of seed i've picked over a gallon of green beans.
Probably as much for pea seeds and so far got more than a quart. The tomato plants are HUGE. Should have pinched them back. The cucumber plant has lots of blossoms and the potato hill (that's right, 'hill' as in 1 hill) has 3 foot high greenery. The onions are the size of golf balls.

From a tiny patch of dirt and minimal $$ such a delightful reward. I could laugh!!

I envy you those green beans, the deer ate my entire 60 foot row one night - i yelled at those creatures, that i was going to roast their buts in the fall, then they started eating the cukes. Finally the next night i saw them, I ran out at 2:00 in hte morning in my nighty and flipflops yelling again - we didn't get any beans, but hubby has gotten lots of entertainment. Next year we
will have an electrical fence (tall).

Enjoy those beans!

My neighbor told me that electric fence doesn't bother deer unless they touch it with their nose. Something about hollow hair insulating them.

Here in South Texas, we do both a spring and fall garden. Plant those Spuds!
