Satellite Internet - There is Another!

I just happened to find out that there is another satellite internet provider other than WildBlue and Hughesnet that is especially designed for the farming/agriculture community.

The name is Agristar and the link to their website is http://www.agristar.com/index.shtml. Their prices seem to be close to Hughesnet, and I really like that they market to the ag/homesteading type.

If you are a member of the Farm Bureau, you can get a discount too, I believe (talk to your agent for more information about a discount).

At the bottom of their page it says "HughesNet broadband high speed satellite internet service provider." So I am thinking they are somehow related. I have HughesNet, and I hate it, but have few options.

If it helps anyone I have Hughesnet and besides the cost it works pretty good most of the time. If cable internet were offered here I would switch immediately but the sat. is better than dialup or Dsl. I pay $115 a month, any less and we hit the download (FAP) cutoff threshold which makes it go sllloooowwwwwww.

So it does! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'm thinking that Agristar is probably something like a reseller. Hmmmm, I shall investigate further, thanks.

We're quite happy with Hughesnet, we've had it for 5 years now (formerly DirecWay, which is what our dish says). We move it around on a tripod wherever we go.

We have wildblue's top package. It would be ok if it was reliable and there wasn't any download limits. We have 4 adults(3 of which are computer savy) on-line at any one time and with the limits it can be hard to get work done. Personaly (sp) I can't wait till we can get rid of it, but at this point I don't know what other options we may have. We don't have access to cable, or DSL, so I have know clue what we will do yet.

Again if it were more reliable and there wasn't these stupid download limits. I can understand upload limits to prevent spammers, but not download limits.

We have starband, it has been reliable, and is so much better than dial-up. We pay $54.98/month. It even works in the rain most of the time, we do lose the signal if it is a really heavy downpour.

Hi, reading posts like crazy again, you guys have helped me sooo much without even knowing it. Anyways, I have Hughesnet too. It was Direcway when I first got it. We don't have telephone poles here, so satellite is my only option. Wild Blue just came to town and I nearly went with them, until reading these posts and talking to some here that have gotten it. *whew* Glad I didn't go with them! I pay $60.00 a month and the only time I have problems is when there are clouds in the sky.

I've had Directway (now hughes net) and I currently have Wildblue. The both leave much to be desired. Thankfully, in the last two months, the local telephone exchange has put up a tower for high speed maxfi service. I'm only 4 months from what I believe is a better high speed connections. I'm sure it will be a slow four months......
