Question EarthBox?

http://www.seattleoil.com/Flyers/Earthbox.pdf

They look sort of complicated; are they good for appartments only?

I have a couple of commercial EarthBoxes. I've only tried them for one season, and didn't follow the instructions (as far as fertilizer amounts and soil, etc.) and got not-so-great results. But I'm going to give them another go probably next year before making up my mind one way or the other. I've seen people who got great results. We've had horrible look gardening in our area. About the only thing I've been able to get to grow were pumpkins, and that was an accident (we tossed a halloween pumpkin in our flower garden after it started rotting, and got three pumpkins from the plan that grew up, this year we've got a bunch more from those pumpkins -- didn't have to do a thing with them other than harvest!)

The commercial ones are easy to set up, and you only have to water them about once a week. Just make sure that you have them where you want them before you fill them up, as they're incredibly heavy once filled with dirt and water.

Seemed way too expensive to me, I just made my own (sans self-watrering however and I miss that in our current drought), but I'm not in an apt.

They're not really complicated at all. I have three and use them to get early cukes and tomatoes as they grow faster and better than the ones in the regular garden. I've had my 6 years and they are still in fine shape.

Rita,
What kind of soil? Any fertilizer for tomatoes? Kind? I forgot to put the cover on and too late. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you using grow lights to start in EB? What kind? Thanks.
